Many new sellers and beginners on Amazon decide to choose the most popular categories, such as Home and Kitchen, Sports and Outdoors, or Toys and Games, among others. These brands may seem like a good deal, but sellers should be aware of the stiff competition they will face. One category that is often overlooked but is growing in popularity is merchandise. Marketing in this way means that you will need to know how the lack of access to goods works, which we will talk about in this article.
What does that mean?
Amazon has certain rules and restrictions regarding the sale of various products. One of the most difficult challenges that Amazon sellers face is restrictions on certain categories, which means that they cannot sell everything they can think of.
Broadly speaking, Amazon offers two types of products: Open and Restricted / Closed. You don’t need a license to sell open products, but a closed domain requires Amazon approval. In addition to merchandise, there are other closed sections such as collectibles, fine art, electronics, video, DVD, and Blu-ray, to name a few.
Being an unsecured member of the commodity category means being approved as a new seller and proving that you are eligible to sell restricted items. This is very important to prevent unscrupulous sellers from selling cheap and fake products instead of original products.
Why does Amazon restrict product categories?
There are a few main reasons why Amazon allows specific limits on product types:
- Amazon’s goal is to provide customers with the best shopping experience. By restricting varieties such as food, Amazon can help maintain product quality and safety for end customers.
- Another purpose of blocking the sector is to prevent the consumer from buying products that can harm their health. Since most of the restricted sectors are commodities, such as food and beverages, and health products, such as vitamins, cosmetics, and dietary supplements, this restriction makes sense.
- Another reason for brand restrictions is the fight against counterfeit products. Cheating has become a big problem because it damages the reputation of the platform.
How can you make money selling products on Amazon?
Following these steps will prepare you for being a foodie and help you have a smooth experience on Amazon.
Step 1: Verify your account with the merchant.
You must have a professional seller account if you want to be protected on Amazon.
This means that you have to apply a few different rules. Make sure your address on file with Amazon matches the address on the receipt. Save these receipts as Amazon requires them as required documents.
Additionally, your account must meet the following criteria:
- Legal Error Rate: <1%
- Return rate before doing so: <2.5%
- Late shipping rate: <4%
You can find these stats in the Account Health section under the Customer Satisfaction and Performance menu. Do not start the application until you meet these criteria. Otherwise, your application will be rejected immediately.
Step 2: Find the product
Search Amazon to find products that are stuck in the grocery store. Find the acceptance criteria for this product and make sure you not only meet them, but you can show them before applying.
If you don’t follow the rules or can’t provide evidence, your application will likely be rejected, wasting your time and energy.
Step 3: Create an online store
As an Amazon seller, you don’t need to own your e-commerce store, but it is important that you don’t get stuck in grocery shopping.
Build an e-commerce website that doesn’t cost as much as it looks like a professional. Make sure you put the same information on your website as your Amazon account and add your logo.
Show the specific product you want to be featured. Be sure to follow Amazon’s specifications for each listing item, such as product photos, titles, search terms, etc. It’s an easy way to deliver what they want to Amazon.
Step 4: Create a wholesale account and buy products
If you do not already have an account with the supplier, you must open one. Be sure to use the address you have on your Amazon account and enter both your seller name and LLC name as your business name if they are different. This makes the message consistent.
Prepare your large order. You need to enter three separate orders because Amazon wants to show more than one sample invoice. Make sure you have no more than 10 pieces of each restricted stock for each order.
Step 5: Prepare your paper
Review and copy the invoice once your product arrives and keep the original items in their original state.
On a copy of the invoice, write the ASIN and UPC next to the product name and close all pricing information. Scan or photograph each invoice individually. Make sure the seller’s name, ASIN, and UPC are easily readable. You have to download them in real-time.
Step 6: Submit your application
Here’s how Amazon requests to be unblocked in grocery stores:
- From the Product menu, select Add Product.
- Find what you want to sell.
- Look at the search results on the right side where it says “List for sale”.
- Click the Apply for Sale button to begin the application process.
Remember, if you don’t have the time or energy to go through all these steps, different Amazon agencies can help you get into the restricted mode by providing Amazon referral services.
How long does it take to get back to the food section?
Once you submit your application, it may take a few days to a few weeks for Amazon to get back to you. There is no deadline, so we cannot say exactly how long it will take to get the free merchandise.
It may take a while for it to be locked in Amazon’s category like grocery, so if you’re not approved right away, don’t worry. If your request is denied, be patient and review the request. It may be because you have lost something. They can tell you exactly what is wrong. If not, respond by saying that you agree with everything in Amazon’s specification and politely ask if they can report the error directly to your application.
